SOFTWARE
OF THE DAY - SIMPLEMOVIEX & IGTD
Hi
All,
Key
Combination of the Day
Option-Drag
Holding down Option and dragging an item or group of items in the
Finder copies the items to the new location. If you release the mouse
button in the same location, the items are duplicated (with the word
"copy" appended to the name).
Shareware
of the
Day:
SimpleMovieX
- Mac
OS X movie editor.
I
record TV
programs, then I remove all the commercials in one shot. It's fast and
clean.
With
SimpleMovieX, to search the commercials inside the movie is easy. The
accurate timeline will do a good job marking the segments to remove.
Saving takes only a few minutes thanks to native support of most
popular formats. See it in Action
I
have tons of DVDs with music concerts, and I want to split them into
songs, then put them in iTunes.
I
used Chapters to mark the beginning of each song. All individual songs
were then cut apart in one shot with the "Split into movies" function,
and after that I just added them to iTunes et voila.
Adaptive
Timeline
Always sharp, even in very long movies, thanks to timeline zoom.
Excellent control with keyboard and mouse.
Keyframe
indicator
This widget will flash when you are exactly on a keyframe.
The sticky mode will make navigation from keyframe to keyframe easy.
Batch
Converter
Easy to use, just pick the files in the browser or drag them from the
Finder. Choose from a variety of formats and bitrates. You'll not run
out of disk space thanks to the disk gauge, and the time prediction
will help you organizing your day.
Very
big files
support
SimpleMovieX goes well beyond QuickTime, it supports MPEG files beyond
4GB and AVI files beyond 1GB, 2GB and 4GB (multi RIFF).
Audio
Synchronization
- Audio Waveform displayed in
overlay to
help locating cuts and context changes.
- Resynchronize Audio easily
with arrows
and sync indicator.
Friendly
- Application crash recovery:
After a
crash (yes, it happens...) you will retrieve your unsaved documents !
- You'll never run out of disk
space in
the middle of a saving operation. Just choose the file name, format and
do Save.
Check
for update
Check new version upon request or on every application launch.
SimpleMovieX talks to Aero Quartet website and tells you whether a new
version is available.
Internet
- Download movies from URLs.
- Support for Google Video
.gvi files,
instantly converted to regular avi format.
Top
Features:
- Native
Editing - Most popular file formats mov, mpeg, avi and
iPod mp4, are natively supported, so you can edit and save them in a
breeze without loss of quality. More
- Chapters
- Add Chapters to give direct access to sequences inside the movie, to
create compilations of movies or songs. More
- Searchable
Movies - Easily find a sequence inside a long movie with
Thumbnail view and Audio Waveform.

Freeware
of the Day:
iGTD -
Powerful
GTD-like organizer for Mac.
What is
it for?
You are a busy person, aren't you? And there's an easy way to track all
things that have to be done... and to get those things done! iGTD takes
some concepts from Getting Things Done methodology and makes them easy
to understand and use in your every day life.
Organize
your life
by contexts.
Just divide your tasks by contexts - where they have to be done? At
home? At your office? At laptop? At any time you can access the
Internet?
Organize
your life
by projects - hierarchically
Some of your tasks are related to your life projects. If you're a
student, divide your school tasks by subjects. If you're a developer,
organize your tasks and ideas by your software projects. You can also
treat projects as categories for your tasks.
What else do you
need to know about a task?
iGTD will let you:
- save some text note
- task's due date
- set task's recurrence
- enter some tags for the task
- or even link a contact
related to this
task from Apple's Address Book
Focus
on your
current tasks!
Just flag them! Hit spacebar to mark a task as flagged or simply click
the flag column. You can access your current flagged tasks quickly by
switching the list mode with the switcher.
Manage
your future
tasks with 'maybe' feature.
Want to save a concept? A task which you may consider doing in future?
Just mark it as maybe-task. Click the action button in first tasks
column and choose 'Mark as maybe'. You can have a quick view of your
maybe tasks by simply switching the list mode.
Task
has been done?
Waiting for some results? Tell iGTD you're waiting for a task!
By default you treat your tasks as to-do's. But sometimes you're not
only completing your tasks. You may also wait for some results - i.e.
for a reply for an important e-mail you've sent to your business
partner or friend. Don't forget about it - use the "wait for task"
option. You can have a quick view of tasks you're waiting for by using
the new switcher.
You
won't forget it
if you drag it. Now in multiple mode!
You can drag all your browser links or Finder files to iGTD window. New
task will be added immediately - with an adequate link. Just click
'open' - and there you go! You can also drag your Address Book contacts.
Copy
and paste - it
works!
Copy your URLs, your Finder files, your Apple Mail e-mails. And paste
them to iGTD - there's no better way to integrate with Mac OS X.
Awesome
keyboard
support
It's a little bit unhumble but I don't know many GTD utilities which
allow the user to act so quickly using the keyboard. More to this -
here.
The
magic of F-keys!
- Just press F5 (or any other
defined
F-key) when browsing your new mail. The selected message will be added
to your inbox - together with subject, sender and content! Trick works
only with MailTags 2.0 installed.
- Just press F5 when browsing
the web with
Safari, Firefox or Opera. The current webpage will be added to your
Inbox - together with the link and (Safari only) selected text of the
page.
- Just press F5 when having a
file
selected in Finder. Selected file will be added to your Inbox!
Quicksilver
- why not? :-) Together with Growl!
Thanks to beta release of Quicksilver plugin you can throw your text
thougts or files to the iGTD inbox. More features coming soon! You will
also get notified of new actions added to iGTD with Growl notifications!
Synchronize
your
tasks with your mobile or PDA!
Thanks to the integration with Mac OS X iCal and iSync you can easily
synchronize tasks from selected contexts with your mobile device. Stop
putting down your shopping ideas on stickies - iGTD will help you. It
can synchronize your tasks to iCal. Moreover, it will run the iSync to
push and pull your tasks from/to the mobile device.
Have an
idea? Well,
there's an iGTD icon on the system menu bar.
Turn on the menu bar item of iGTD in the preferences panel. You will be
able to add a new task to the given context or project. You can also
open any browser or file link quickly. Or even make iGTD synchronize
your tasks with your mobile device.
Process
your task
inbox and review your tasks regularly.
As GTD says, you are supposed to review your plans and tasks on a daily
and weekly basis. Use the process/review inspector. Just press the @
key when browsing through your tasks or use any 'Process...' or
'Review...' button. Inspector window will appear. As you can see, you
can do almost everything about your task - with just a keystroke or two.
Search
your tasks.
Quickly!
No need to wait. No need to browse your tasks. Just type in any word
which has to be found - you can search names, task notes, task tags or
contacts. iGTD will find it. I promise.
